Best Way to Apply a Mask
Our short list of a few simple steps you can follow for applying a facial mask.

- Cleanse skin.
- With your fingertips, apply the mask all over your face, spreading a thin layer of product evenly around. The right way to apply a mask is to pat it on gently - avoid pulling or stretching delicate facial skin as you apply the product. Don't apply it right underneath the eyes; keep some space under each eye as well as around your mouth.
- Read the package instructions for how long you should leave on the mask. A basic rule of thumb is 10 to 15 minutes, or until the mask gets hard. However, if it is a tightening mask, don't wait until it feels absolutely uncomfortable before you remove it - you'll stress your skin unnecessarily. Don't use the mask more often than once a week. Many patients have experienced redness and irritation from overusing their masks. I tell them that, unlike a serum or a moisturizer, a mask should be used sparingly, and it should not be kept on until it hurts.
- Depending on the type of mask, either peel it off or rinse it off using tepid water and a washcloth.
- Moisturize if the mask was a drying kind; otherwise hold off on the moisturizer. The mask is hydrating enough.
